Maria Montessori wrote that from birth to age 6, children are in a sensitive period for learning that God loves them. She also explained that children are more interested in religion than we give them credit for. They want to learn about what the priest is doing during Divine Liturgy, not just sing simple songs about Jesus.
One project I am working on right now is teaching prayers to my 1 and 3 year old. These booklets are the product of that work.
There are two functions of these booklets. One is to teach the words of the prayers. The other is to teach the meaning of the prayers. The top of each booklet page contains the words of the prayer. When you first introduce these booklets to your kids, I recommend just reading the words of the prayer. Then, once your child becomes familiar with some of the words, you can start reading the second part – descriptions of the meaning of the line of the prayer, or how it applies to our lives.
