Reasons to Reorganize

Sometimes it is obvious when things need a little (or a lot of) organization. Stuff is overflowing, and piles clutter all flat surfaces in the home. But organization and a little re-arranging can be helpful at other times too! In today’s article we will look at three reasons to reorganize. And some tips for organizing successfully!

Reason to Reorganize: Your Kids Have Gotten Older

step one: declutter

Actually, you have gotten older. The shirt you loved wearing while you were pregnant with your first baby, you might not want to put on again during a future pregnancy. Even if you still like the shirt. Take a look at the items you are not using. Look for things you have outgrown (and I am not just talking about clothes). Look at the the things you have been keeping “just in case.” What would you do if you didn’t have that item? Could you use something else? Borrow something like it? Or replace it for less then 20 dollars? Yes? Pass it on. Would you pay money to store it? No? Then it is time to get rid of it.

The stuff we keep takes up real estate in our home. Consider every square foot valuable. Let us prove capable of caring for the lot that God has given us. And not store up things we will never use.

And yes, consider how the kids are getting older too. They grow out of clothes and shoes, and age out of toys. Consider decluttering what is no longer useful to your family. Also, put a basket where kids clothes are stored, so when things become too small it can be handed down or decluttered accordingly. And not taking up valuable real estate in the closet!

Reason to Reorganize: Your Needs Have Changed

step two: reconsider

Now that everyone is older, consider how the families needs have changed. Perhaps there is a need for a more permanent work-from-home space. Or perhaps a rearrangement of the furniture is in order now that the baby swing has been put away. Do you still need cable if you use subscriptions instead? Look for the things that have become redundant, and consider the growing needs of your family. How can you combine spaces to do two jobs, and free up another space for a new need?

If you are feeling uninspired, look for creative solution for your space. Look on Pinterest for interesting organizing ideas, and use them as an inspiration for some of your own! I am not saying you should recreate Pinterest spaces. Just that you could use them as a springboard for your own solutions.

Reason to Reorganize: Making Your Home Beautiful

step three: refresh

Are you bored with the space? Tired of the dreary curtains? Or annoyed with the nail holes in the wall? Now is the time to make changes. Don’t wait until you move to fix up the little problems with the house. Find ways to do those changes now. Even without making a big and expensive renovation, chances are there are some quick, cheap, and easy ways to liven up your living space.

Home is somewhere we should want to be. Ugly decor and chipped paint can get in the way of this.

When our children need new blankets, pillows, or sweaters, we do not hesitate to provide them. However, sometimes we do not consider ourselves. We can “make do” with old curtains and bed sheets. Make a list of all the things you would like to change to make a more lovely space. Even if the budget is tight, set aside a little each month to go towards these fixes. Things that are good, true, and beautiful point us towards God, who is Goodness, Truth, and Beauty. When you enjoy your lovely refreshed spaces, contemplate the beauty of God and the blessings He provides in your life.
