The Ultimate Homeschool Resource Guide

Over the last few months, we have been partnering with Timothy Flanders at The Meaning of Catholic to put together some resource lists. The focus is on the Domestic Church, so we will be covering all topics home life. However, our project started because we wanted to provide Catholic families with a one stop shop for all information homeschool. And so our homeschool guide was our top priority to launch. And then, in the last two weeks, we finally launched the Ultimate Homeschool Resource Guide!

The Ultimate Homeschool Resource Guide

Are you are just considering homeschooling? Are you looking for Catholic friendly homeschooling resources? Or are you deep in the homeschooling trenches? Wherever you are at there will be something for you on this page!

This page starts off by giving some information on the Catholic perspective on homeschooling. Plus, the Byzantine perspective is included… we link to a homily by St. John Chrysostom! From catechisms to canon law, and the Church Fathers to to modern church documents, we’ve got the basis covered. And, spoiler alert, homeschooling is a very Catholic option for educating children!

Next we cover topics like homeschooling methods, what homeschooling looks like, and bringing kids home/out of the school system. Then we get into tips for homeschooling multiple children, and even putting multiple subjects together! There is a top recommending reading list for Catholic parents who homeschool, and links for networking with other homeschooling parents. (Though I should also mention for the fellow Byzantine families reading this article, ByziMom has a Byzantine Homeschooler’s Facebook group).

Finally, (before we get to the meat of homeschool resources), we link to some aids for the legal considerations of homeschooling.

Resources for Homeschooling

Then we start to get into actual resources for homeschooling!

This section starts off with a bit of information about homeschooling in the preschool years. Not because homeschooling preschool is necessary. But because some families find learning activities fun. And because little siblings often don’t want to be left out of the homeschool day!

Next we get into a list of Catholic resources for prepackaged curriculum, and/or for online education. We follow up this list by noting some free homeschool resources. This way any Catholic family can get started homeschooling, even without a budget! We also have a list of some curriculum supplies, particularly to note locations to get Catholic curriculum or homeschool curriculum outside of the USA.

Then we have a section full of tips to adapt any homeschool curriculum you may have to make it suit your family!

Finally, the biggest section of the resource page is our Build Your Own Curriculum section. Here we share information about various subjects you may want to include in your homeschool. For each subject/subject area we have some information on methods you could use to teach this subject. And some quick tips regarding the subject! Then we have a curated list of resources that may work for your family. That way if you don’t like part of your prepackaged curriculum, or if a program you are using isn’t suited to your family, you have a quick place to go to look for some other ideas of Catholic-friendly resources.
